Nomat: Все хорошие люди прошлого века родились в Ливерпуле Я, собственно, чего - всё же книжная полка... так это, может кто знает, на каких точно flower'ах служил Монсаррат и командиром какого captain'а он закончил войну? Очень хочется найти реальные "Компас роуз" и "Салташ"

Благодаря Вашей подсказке нашел вот это: Re:Ships that Nicholas Monsarrat served on -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- He was an RNVR Sub-Lieutenant on Campanula in 1940-1941. Many elements of his voyage with convoy OG71 were used in his novel The Cruel Sea and he based the hero of the book (Lt. Comm George Erickson) on the captain of HMS Zinnia, Commander Charles Cuthbertson RNR. Events from his diary onboard Campanula were used to write H.M. Corvette (now one of a number of collected memoirs and stories in the volume Three Corvettes) He then joined HMS Guillemot as a First Lieutenant. Guillemot was a Kingfisher Class Patrol Sloop operating from Harwich. After that it all becomes a bit vague. He may have been a First Lieutenant on HMS Shearwater after Guillemot. There is a vague online reference to him as a 3rd officer aboard a HMS Jubilee heading for Simonstown, S. Africa in August 1942, but I have never found a HMS Jubilee listed in any WWII naval lists and this may be complete fiction. Monsarrat seems to have first become Lieutenant Commander of a River Class Frigate around March 1943. He is thought to have ended the war as Lieutenant Commander of a Colony Class Frigate, but again this may be a mistake as there was a Colony Class Frigate actually named HMS Montserrat and his own surname may have become linked with the Colony Class for that reason. There does not appear to be an official published biography on Monserrat which could answer these questions and much more research is needed to provide a definitve list of ships he served on.

"Жестокое море" - книга уникальная, на мой скромный взгляд, гораздо лучше "Полярного конвоя" Маклина и примерно на уровне Das Boot, хотя мне в последней, по личным причинам, не нравится уровень рефлексий Буххайма, хотя и понятно, что без этого "Лодка" потеряет свое очарование. The Cruel Sea написана совсем по-другому, в очень реалистичном ключе, без объяснения подноготной этой реальности. Вопрос такого плана - из остальных "морских" работ Монсаррата мне довелось читать по-русски только "Корабль, умерший от стыда". Есть еще русские переводы его работ? У него, судя по простоте студенческих переводов 60-х, не очень сложный и английский - есть ли его тексты в И-нете?
